The seventh tier side are currently 16th in their divison - over 100 places below Reading in the football pyramid. The Royals opted for several changes after the weekend's 4-1 home victory over Crawley Town, which included swapping the front three and handing Jayden Wareham his first league start for Reading after 13 appearances from the bench. From kick-off, and after 45 seconds of Exeter playing the ball around in their defensive third, Wareham made the perfect start when Knibbs stole the ball from the defender and passed to Wareham who fired across the goalkeeper, putting the ball inside the post to put Reading ahead inside the first minute.

Contracts have been signed with goalkeeper Matthew Rowley, and striker Adrian Akande. Cheapest prices remain in the North Stand family area and the South Stand where children in both need to be accompanied by an adult. Renewal prices in both areas are 340 pounds for adults and 365 for new adult season ticket holders. Prices for the non-family area of the North Stand are an extra 20 pounds for adults. The East and West stands are 440 pounds for new adult season ticket holders (415 for renewals), and the Upper West remains the most expensive area of the ground at 490 pounds for a new adult season ticket. It was a dominant performance with some excellent passing football and outstanding finishing. Orchestrated by skipper Lewis Wing, the one-touch passing and movement allowed Reading to dominate possession restricting United to only two attempts on targets in the entire match. There was a confidence on the ball throughout the team and a willingness to receive a pass which enabled them to maintain pressure on the visitors for most of the game. Several Reading players have the composure, touch, and awareness to receive the ball in tight situations and pop the ball off to an unmarked team mate to retain possession. The quality of the play lifted the home fans which in turn encouraged the team to attack a team clearly low on confidence and ideas.

In a congested fixture list, Ruben Selles understandably fielded several youngsters, including a debut for the impressive seventeen-year-old Ashqar Ahmed at right back, with a sprinkling of experienced regular first team players in the starting eleven or on the bench. 26/06/2024 - Reading have been handed a tough start to their new 2024/2025 League One campaign, with an away trip to Birmingham City who have been relegated from the Championship. The new season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday 10 August, and Reading are at home on the second weekend of the season when Wigan Athletic will visit the Select Car Leasing Stadium. Newly promoted Wrexham will see Reading visit in the third match of the season on 24 August.
Reading's Christmas fixtures see home games on both Boxing Day and 29 December against Northampton Town and Mansfield Town. 2025 starts with two away trips with Cambridge United on New Years Day followed by a trip to Charlton Athletic. The season wraps up on 3 May 2025 when the Royals will host Barnsley to finish the season.

This defeat ended Blackpool's run of four consecutive wins in a late charge for a play-off spot. The Seasiders had the perfect start when Dembele took advantage of the time and space allowed by the Royals defence in a typically sluggish start. Reading took control of the game and finally levelled the scores in stoppage time at the end of the first half with a Smith header.
With Blackpool desperately needing all three points to have any chance of a top six finish, the game the second half was predictably more open that the first. As Blackpool pushed forward chances came at either end but ultimately the quality of Reading's passing, movement, and finishing produced the goals required to secure the points.

Although the fine dates back to negotiations in 2019, Olise left Reading in 2021 for 8 million pounds to Crystal Palace. The agent negotiated a huge 10 percent payout on Olise's future transfer. Olise is of course, without exaggeration, one of the best Premier League players right now. In a season filled with injury he has still emerged as one to most exciting players in the top tier. When Olise is fit and playing, Crystal Palace generally win games and Olise is always involved with goals or assists. He was fantastic at Reading but has taken it up a level in the Premier League with Palace valuing him at over 60 million pounds. The news appears to signal a possible end to the on-going chaos that has been caused by Dai Yongge's existing ownership of the club. Should the negotiations proceed to a completed sale then it would be best solution for the club, and fans, as it would be the full package instead of just the club itself. However, it would be unfair to Wycombe to claim their half time lead could be attributed entirely to the poor quality of Reading's play.
Wycombe's game plan worked a treat in the first half. High pressing Wanderers prevented Reading from passing their way out of their own half, forcing them to resort to hitting long balls into their opponent's half. With their towering centre backs Lonwijk and Tafazolli winning everything in the air against the isolated Smith, the visitors kept Reading pinned in their own half for most of the opening forty-five minutes. Not only were Wycombe keeping Reading in their own half they were quick to snaffle up any loose balls in midfield. Reading gave the ball away with alarming regularity, and then conceded free kicks in clumsy attempts to win it back.
