23/10/2024 - Despite constant late pressure from the home team, Reading held out to secure three more points at Exeter City and climb to seventh place in the League One - just outside of the play-off positions on goal difference. The Royals opted for several changes after the weekend's 4-1 home victory over Crawley Town, which included swapping the front three and handing Jayden Wareham his first league start for Reading after 13 appearances from the bench. From kick-off, and after 45 seconds of Exeter playing the ball around in their defensive third, Wareham made the perfect start when Knibbs stole the ball from the defender and passed to Wareham who fired across the goalkeeper, putting the ball inside the post to put Reading ahead inside the first minute.
Reading had been the better side in the first half and extended their lead with nine minutes left to play of the first half, again scoring inside the box with Exeter failing to deal with Reading pressure close to goal. Michael Craig took Collapse

30/09/2024 - Superbly taken goals from Harvey Knibbs and Ben Elliot either side of half time gave Reading a morale-boosting win and three valuable points at the end of yet another turbulent week off the pitch for Reading Football Club. Having made a bright start to the season, both teams were eager to end a run of two defeats their previous games. Huddersfield will be disappointed to come away with nothing to show for their endeavours after dominating possession and taking a deserved lead midway through the first half.

02/09/2024 - With the takeover completion still yet to go through, Reading's transfer deadline day activity was limited to the arrival of Chem Campbell on a short term loan from Premier League side Wolves. Twenty-one year old Chem will stay with the Royals until 5 January 2025, but was not eligible to play in Reading's 2-0 home victory over Charlton on Saturday. Campbell has been restricted to a small number of appearances off the bench for his parent club in the league, with just a single start in the League Cup. The last few seasons have seen him shipped out on loan at Wycombe, and Charlton before a return to Wycombe to finish last season. His loan transfers mean he is no stranger to League One, where he scored two goals for Charlton last season. Collapse

09/07/2024 - The future of Reading Football Club is still unknown as fans wait confirmation of new owners ahead of the new season in League One. During the summer the women's team has effectively been disbanded as they drop to the fifth tier, ending life as a professional football club. There is also no certainty for the men's team as pre-season gets underway. With limited options to bring in new players, the club will again turn to youth players to top up the squad, and have handed contracts to a group of Under-21 and Academy players.
Contracts have been signed with goalkeeper Matthew Rowley, and striker Adrian Akande. Meanwhile midfielder Jay Senga-Ngoyi, defender Michael Stickland and forward player Basil Tuma, who have all featured for the first team, have signed new contracts with the club. Akande looks set to play a part in the first team this season after a very promising campaign for the Under 21s last season. Collapse

16/05/2024 - Reading have confirmed players that will be leaving this summer as contracts expire and loan spells finish. Thankfully the departures are not as dramatic as recent seasons and the Royals will be hoping to hang on to key players when transfers get underway pre-season. There is also some good news with players who were out of contract having one year extensions activated to keep them at the club.
Nesta Guinness-Walker, Matty Carson, Sam Hutchinson and Clinton Mola are all set to leave the club as their contracts expire. Nesta Guinness-Walker was once a first choice player in the starting eleven but fell out of favour after Reading's poor start to the season and found himself out on loan at Stevenage. At Stevenage he found himself playing more from the bench but did notch up 14 league appearances. Clinton Mola spent just one season with the Royals and has not been offered a new contract. At 34 years old Sam Hutchinson was the experience in a very young Reading squad this season Collapse

05/04/2024 - The club have announced prices for season tickets for the 2024/2025 season well ahead of time this year, with the club hopeful of another season in League One under new owners next season. The East and West stands are 440 pounds for new adult season ticket holders (415 for renewals), and the Upper West remains the most expensive area of the ground at 490 pounds for a new adult season ticket. 18/03/2024 - After a week of turmoil off the field, the Reading players rewarded their loyal, and increasing vocal fans, with an entertaining thumping four goal victory over fellow strugglers Cambridge United. It was a dominant performance with some excellent passing football and outstanding finishing. Orchestrated by skipper Lewis Wing, the one-touch passing and movement allowed Reading to dominate possession restricting United to only two attempts on targets in the entire match. There was a confidence on the ball throughout the team and a willingness to receive a pass which enabled them to maintain pressure on the visitors for most of the game. Several Reading players have the composure, touch, and awareness to receive the ball in tight situations and pop the ball off to an unmarked team mate to retain possession. The quality of the play lifted the home fans which in turn encouraged the team to attack a team clearly low on confidence and ideas.

04/03/2024 - Reading climbed back up to sixteenth in the table with a hugely important away win at bottom club Carlisle United. With over 1,000 travelling fans making the long journey north, Reading secured three points to end the week positive on points after being deducted two points earlier in the week. After a set-back last weekend with a home defeat to Shrewsbury, this was a big win that puts Reading firmly on course to survive the drop to League Two. The Royals are back to being five points clear of the drop, and in good long term form, and look set to stay up provided matters off the pitch do not further interfere.
Reading got off to a good start, when Smith was set-up by the outstanding Knibbs, but Smith was denied by the Carlisle post. However after just 17 minutes Smith put Reading on their way. Knibbs doubled Reading's lead ten minutes before half time and scored a third just before the hour mark. The home side's goal on 71 minutes was little more than a consolation with Collapse

04/11/2024 - Reading eased into the second round of the FA Cup with a comfortable, if not convincing, two goal home win against mid table League Two opponents Fleetwood Town. In a congested fixture list, Ruben Selles understandably fielded several youngsters, including a debut for the impressive seventeen-year-old Ashqar Ahmed at right back, with a sprinkling of experienced regular first team players in the starting eleven or on the bench. Understandably, Reading took a while to settle into the game, but as the game progressed, the individual skill of the Reading players and the quality of their play left Fleetwood looking outclassed.

18/10/2024 - There will be few goals at any level this season, and certainly not in League One, to match Lewis Wing's sublime strike after forty minutes this afternoon. Furthermore, from Reading's point of view, the timing of Wing's goal could not have been better. Having taken the lead after twenty minutes against a Crawley side without a league win in eight games, Reading struggled to escape from their own half, and it was no surprise when they were pegged back by the visitors with a deflected shot from Forster ten minutes later. Wing's breathtaking long-range strike just before half time, came out of the blue, took the wind out of Crawley's sails, and silenced the away fans.

16/09/2024 - An appalling basic error mid-way through the first half by goalkeeper Boyce-Clarke, covering for the injured Pereira, ultimately cost Reading all three points in an unexpected defeat at home at the hands of an Orient side, until yesterday, without a win in the league this season. Bindon gave Kelman too much room on the edge of the box and his pacy, but not unstoppable strike straight at Boyce-Clarke, squirmed under his body and into the net. It was a basic goalkeeping error. Nobody however, should place the blame on Reading's inexperienced stand-in 'keeper for this disappointing result who, moments earlier, had pulled off an outstanding reflex save from the scorer Kelman.
In his post-match interview Ruben Selles referred to Leyton Orients 'game plan' as a significant factor in this first Reading home defeat for some time. It is hard to argue with that point of view. Orient's 'game plan' was the main factor in producing three valuable points for the visitors and an afternoon almost Collapse

20/08/2024 - Reading took an early lead with a goal of real quality in a dominant opening spell which had the Wigan defence in complete disarray. Royals were rampant only prevented from racing into an early unassailable lead by some desperate defending, good goalkeeping and wayward finishing.

29/04/2024 - Reading rounded off their season with a more convincing victory than the scoreline suggests. This defeat ended Blackpool's run of four consecutive wins in a late charge for a play-off spot. The Seasiders had the perfect start when Dembele took advantage of the time and space allowed by the Royals defence in a typically sluggish start. Reading took control of the game and finally levelled the scores in stoppage time at the end of the first half with a Smith header.
With Blackpool desperately needing all three points to have any chance of a top six finish, the game the second half was predictably more open that the first. As Blackpool pushed forward chances came at either end but ultimately the quality of Reading's passing, movement, and finishing produced the goals required to secure the points.

It was goal worthy of winning any match, and followed his equally stunning finish in Reading's previous home four thumping of Cambridge United. Make no mistake about it, this was a very significant victory for the Royals against a rugged mid- table side which lacked quality but were tough to break down and pressed well.

21/02/2024 - Relentless second half pressure finally delivered the goals Reading required to bounce back from a heavy away defeat at league leaders Portsmouth on Saturday to overcome a stubborn Vale side desperate for points under new manager Darren Moore. The only change from the weekend starting eleven was the introduction of Smith to replace Mukairu. After a dull opening forty-five minutes Lewis Wing finally broke the deadlock fourteen minutes from the end with another stunning strike from outside the box. 02/10/2024 - Two first half strikes from loan signing Chem Campbell laid the foundations of a comfortable home win for Reading, the second in four days at the Select Car Leasing stadium. Having failed to impress in his previous appearances the young Wolves loanee turned quickly in the box to tuck away a half chance when the ball fell to him following a run and cut back from Ehibhatiomhan. Buoyed by scoring his first Reading goal the nineteen-year-old added a second just before half time pouncing on a moment of hesitation by full back Williams on the edge of the box. Dispossessing the dithering Williams, Campbell took a deft touch to tee up a low strike inside the post. On the stroke of half time he might have added a third but his shot flew wide.

Charlton arrived in Reading on the back of three straight league wins but dropped points for the first time this season thanks to late goals from Charlie Savage and Sam Smith. Savage's goal after 66 minutes was his third of the season in all competitions and set Reading on their way to victory in a match with few shots on target from either side. Reading had the better of the first half, with Charlton picking up after the break but failing to create many chances. 16/05/2024 - Reading have been handed a massive 200,000 pound fine after former Reading player Michael Olise's agent was banned for six months for breaching FA rules concerning his future transfer away from the Royals. Although the fine dates back to negotiations in 2019, Olise left Reading in 2021 for 8 million pounds to Crystal Palace. The agent negotiated a huge 10 percent payout on Olise's future transfer. Olise is of course, without exaggeration, one of the best Premier League players right now. In a season filled with injury he has still emerged as one to most exciting players in the top tier. When Olise is fit and playing, Crystal Palace generally win games and Olise is always involved with goals or assists. He was fantastic at Reading but has taken it up a level in the Premier League with Palace valuing him at over 60 million pounds. Even with that price tag it is likely a team will come in for Olise this summer, which of course will be big money for his new agent.

served in a match which Reading had outplayed a team heading for the play-offs on an unbeaten
run of fifteen games. The late equaliser was nothing less than Reading deserved, not only because
they were clearly the better side, but also because they had to overcome a Lincoln side who had
throughout, persistently manipulated an extremely weak referee. With teams around them at the
bottom of the league losing the point gained leaves Reading six points clear of the bottom four with
four games remaining. Barring further intervention by the EFL it means Reading will almost certainly

27/03/2024 - Reading Football Club have released a statement to confirm that they are in "exclusive negotiation" with a "potential purchaser". The news appears to signal a possible end to the on-going chaos that has been caused by Dai Yongge's existing ownership of the club. The sale to new owners would include the club itself, the stadium and the Bearwood training ground. However, there is no guarantee that negotiations will successfully complete.
Should the negotiations proceed to a completed sale then it would be best solution for the club, and fans, as it would be the full package instead of just the club itself. This would surely be the best outcome after Wycombe Wanderers were forced to pull out of their purchase of the training ground. 11/03/2024 - The consensus on the concourse in the West Upper at half time was that this was the worst Reading performance this season so far, and it was hard to disagree with that assessment. However, it would be unfair to Wycombe to claim their half time lead could be attributed entirely to the poor quality of Reading's play.
Wycombe's game plan worked a treat in the first half. High pressing Wanderers prevented Reading from passing their way out of their own half, forcing them to resort to hitting long balls into their opponent's half. With their towering centre backs Lonwijk and Tafazolli winning everything in the air against the isolated Smith, the visitors kept Reading pinned in their own half for most of the opening forty-five minutes. Not only were Wycombe keeping Reading in their own half they were quick to snaffle up any loose balls in midfield. Reading gave the ball away with alarming regularity, and then conceded free kicks in clumsy attempts to win it back.
